Principal's Welcome

Atherton Elementary Principal

Dear Atherton Elementary Families,

Welcome to Atherton Elementary, where we help our youngest Wolverines learn and grow! Serving over 320 students in grades K-6, our dedicated AES staff is here to provide a safe and supportive environment. We are proud to offer small class sizes and a learning environment that focuses on the whole child: academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. 

AES students receive daily instruction focused on reading, writing, math, science, and social studies keeping students engaged and excited about learning. Weekly Art, PE, and STEM lessons, along with visits to our school library, help create a well-rounded education. Our newly renovated library has cozy reading spots and a wide range of books to encourage a love of reading. And our STEM classroom is designed for collaborative learning and problem solving using science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

AES also offers an after-school and summer program through the 21st Century Community Learning Center. This program provides fun and creative activities that build on what students learn during the school day. Activities include arts and culture, fitness and nutrition, academics, STEM, and leadership skills. Field trips during the summer program provide enriching learning experiences within the county and outside the county. 

Partnering with our AES families and community is a priority, too. We welcome parents to volunteer in our classrooms, attend field trips, join classroom and school celebrations, participate in evening events, and become members of our Parent-Teacher Organization.

As I begin my first year as the principal of AES, I’d like to share a bit about myself. My husband, Ron, and I live in Flushing, his hometown, and we have two grown daughters and a six-month-old grandson. For the past 22 years, I have been honored to be an educator in Genesee County, as an early elementary teacher, a middle school and elementary building administrator and curriculum director. As the AES principal, I look forward to meeting you and working together to support our students' success.
